sonic the hedgehog is a video game series created by the japanese developers yuji naka (programmer), naoto ohshima (character designer), and hirokazu yasuhara (gameplay and stage designer) for the video game company sega. the franchise centers around sonic, a spiky blue hedgehog, who is rivals with dr. eggman, a evil scientist who luvs robots and world domination!

the mainline sonic the hedgehog games are usually platformers, mostly developed by sonic team, while spin-offs from various studios put the franchise into other genres like racing, fighting, party, and sports, and other non-game media formats like printed media, animations, and feature films. o3o

the introduction of new characters has been a consistent feature of the sonic series. from sonic the hedgehog 2 onward, there has been a new character or TWO new characters in nearly every video game in the series!! there are around 190 mainline game sonic characters and out of all of those characters my favorite 3 are silver, tails, and metal sonic! ^_^
