what are character items?

- character items are items usually food or drinks or objects assigned to different vocaloids by fans, some of these character items have been noticed by companies/studios and appear in the games and different merch and stuff for example nendoroid figures.

how do vocaloids get these items?

- item wars (持ち物戦争, Mochimono Sensou), an event that used to be more common in the vocaloid fandom where when everytime a new vocaloid released fans discussed a character item for it by showing memes/art of the vocaloid with random items they think would fit based off things like: color scheme, headcanons, assumed personality, and stuff like that. some of these depictions got popular within the vocaloid fandom with people sometimes having differing opinions on which item the vocaloid would have.

how did this all start?

- this began with hachune miku, a vocaloid derivative based off of the pre-existing hatsune miku. hachune miku was a derivative created by otomania and tamago made to be a hatsune miku parody version of loituma girl/leekspin but eventually it became its own character. this character was the reason for the start of the item wars practice, anddd uhmmm contrary 2 popular belief!!!, miku's character item is actually a spring onion cause i believe in rhe source material for leekspin (bleach) in the japanese sub it was called a negi (ネギ) aka a green spring onion but the "LEEK" in LEEKspin comes from the english dub where they called it a leek so yah leekspin.
